Making Waves: Mary Oswald Reaches 10,000 Swimming Miles on Her 75th Birthday
This Friday, October 17, we’re celebrating a truly special milestone at the Marinette-Menominee YMCA — and it’s all thanks to one of our most inspiring members, Mary Oswald.
Mary will be turning 75 years old, and on that very same day, she’ll hit an incredible 10,000 swimming miles in our YMCA pool! That’s right — 10,000 miles of dedication, strength, and perseverance, all powered by her love for swimming and lifelong commitment to wellness.
If you’ve spent time around the Y, chances are you’ve seen Mary gliding through the lanes with her signature smile and determination. A former physical education and health teacher in the Menominee School District, Mary has always believed in the power of movement, fitness, and community. She’s also a former YMCA Board Member, helping shape programs and opportunities that make a difference for youth, families, and members of all ages.
To celebrate this amazing achievement (and her birthday!), Mary will be bringing in treats to share with friends and fellow swimmers on Friday. We invite everyone to, say hello, and congratulate her on this incredible accomplishment if you see her around the Y or in our community.
Mary’s story is a beautiful reminder of what makes the YMCA so special — a place where people of all ages come together to grow stronger in spirit, mind, and body. Her journey inspires us all to keep moving, set big goals, and celebrate the milestones along the way.
Congratulations, Mary! Your Y family is so proud of you — here’s to many more miles ahead!
