Meet Mike Majkrzak
“How do you say your last name Mike? (My – Shock)”
Mike has been a member of the Y since 1986, and his family has grown with the Y throughout their life journey. Mike and Linda have been married for 38 years, have 2 grown children, and some grand – fur babies that Mike takes pride in watching daily.
Mike worked for 30 years at KUS and shared, “I worked until my job became a job. I had so much fun working at KUS. I would come to the Y before work at 4:30am, and then I would come again after work”. Linda, worked for the Menominee School District, and currently is working a job she loves at Culver’s.
The Majkrzak family has been involved with the Y since when their kids were young. “Tara grew up and competed with the Gliders Gymnastics Team from youth through High School. Shawn would work out with his friends, Linda and I would water walk, and then we both would use the features in the adult locker rooms – steam room, sauna, and hot tub”.

Mike shared “Fall and Spring we were busy with gymnastics, and then Spring through Fall we were busy with Shawn’s Super Late Model car racing all over the state of WI”.
Mike has had over 30 surgery’s, the most recent one included his Weight Reduction surgery. Something he has always battled, as he never knew he had a hormone imbalance. Having this surgery Mike has lost over 100 lbs, and is feeling confident! He does have another surgery coming up and continues to use the pool as his “hospital recovery zone”.
Mike is very passionate, enjoys life, always has a smile on his face and LOVES to play guess that tune in the pool when the lifeguard plays music.
He shared the following, “I enjoy the people so much at the Y, I would love to join a fitness class and am hoping after losing this weight and healing from my surgeries I can try.”
Mike passionately shared, “Don’t ever cut your time short when coming to the Y. Get here as much as possible, and use it when you are able to, as there will be a day when you won’t be able to.”
You will see Mike mainly in the pool water walking and doing pool exercises many days of the week for hours on end.
Mike LOVES to meet new people and talk up a storm – if you see him make sure to stop and say hi!
